I've never come across a program more difficult to remove! I've run all the uninstallers from add/remove, yet it still remains. I've used the Mcafee removal tool which gets rid of all traces or it, yet when I goto install Active Virus Shield, it warns me mcafee is still installed! Mcafee still appears in the add/remove list, but when I look in the registry under add/remove items, mcafee isn't there. How do I get rid of this program without bleedin formatting?!

You could boot into safe mode and try it there.

Stop any mcafee services that are running and use msconfig to disable them from starting up.

Yeah, i've tried disabling all mcafee services/startup entires. Safe mode doesn't work either :( I might try re-installing mcafee and see what happens. It can't make it any worse, surely :p

put in the disk, when it says remove or repair, remove...

thats how i did it, if that dont work then use tune up utilities... that will also work, if not then delete the files from program files, restart the pc and then try uninstall again.

i did all of those last time i wanted to uninstall and one worked... cant remember which but it did, and my mate also had the same issues as you a few weeks back and what i recommended also worked for him.
