Removing Norton Software?

My new laptop came with norton internet security installed but id rather use avast. Is there an easy way to uninstall norton?

Uninstall it from programmes as usual and use this to clear up any remnants left behind. Alternatively do a complete clean install and get rid of all the rubbish in one go.

Use the remove option from the add/remove programs section in control panel (or whatever they are calling it in Vista if that is what you have).

It's not. I was being sarcastic

It's the first thing you find if you ask google, or symantecs own search how to remove or uninstall norton products.

First thing is did when I sorted out my nieces Laptop just before xmas was to remove the norton rubbish from it and I did use the tool posted above by Brian & Ross, it removed all remaining traces of norton. I then extended my license on NOD32 to the new ESET Smart Security for both mine and her laptop, nice little firewall and virus scanner, as always the Smart Security is top notch as you would expect from ESET/NOD32.

Problem is that if i run the restore disc its just gonna put norton back on again. I do still have a retail copy of vista from my last rig which i could install but toshibas website seems tha it dosent have the drivers required

The retail disk will not work as it will require a retail product key. Can you borrow an OEM disk?

I have the retail product key, its the full version purchased from a high street store

Anyhow i used the removal tool and all is now well

Norton is utter tosh IMO
