Removing photo's from iPhone?

I have loads of photo's on my iPhone taking up valuable storage space. i have backed them up in iPhoto but now i want to remove them from the phone and start afresh. how do i do this?

On the phone select 'edit' on your camera roll, select the items you want to remove and delete them in one.
