Some rather unpleasant person decided to run a key half way down the side of my car a couple of weeks back! I had a look at it but it was too deep to polish out but luckily hadn't gone through to the metal.

My neighbour however took it upon himself to try and polish it out apparently first with t-cut and then some 3M polish. All while I was out I may add!

Now, not only do I have a key mark along the door I also have a cloudy area all around it just to make it look even more unsightly!

Any ideas how I can get it off? I've washed it twice now and both times gave it a second wash over that area but with no joy!

Any ideas greatly appreciated thanks.

Wait.. what?! Before we get to the constructive answers..

Did he key it in the first place? Why is he trying to fix this for you? Does he fancy you?

I have suspicions that it may have been his kids that did with their bikes or something hence the eagerness to sort it out. He may fancy me, I wouldnt be surprised if he did with my dashing good looks, but he has an extremely fit wife so I doubt it.

Isn't 3m a cutting compound? Similar happened to me and I found that if I went over it with a finishing polish that it made it much better although it can take a little time for it to be perfect again.

I use auto glym super resin polish to polish out the cloudy areas after a t-cut.

Ive got some super resin polish I think so will give that a try. I imagine the panel needs a respray anyway so its its fuggered then it isnt the end of the world I suppose.

A) As said, try some super resin polish. Used some on my car for a mark the other day, plenty of elbow grease needed but got it out. It may reduce the clouding, but I don't think it will do anything for your scratch.
B) Negotiate with his wife for compensation
C) Thread needs pics of car.. and wife.. mainly of the wife.

a) thanks and I agree it wont do much if anything to the scratch sadly but going on holiday in Sep and cant afford to get it resprayed until back.
b) already on the case
c) is pics of wife on car bonnet suitable?

Well he hasn't gone through the kc by hand.
You need to finish it off now now that he's began polishing stages. Most likely a final stage Polish will sort the cloudyness out.
