Does anyone know how to remove the standard radio from a Citroen AX? Its got this plastic facia aroound the radio itself.

My battery died, and I typed the wrong code in, and now it doesnt work. May as well replace it tbh.

I dont know the official way off hand, but a method ive used a few times with stereo's i dont want any more has been to simply stick a large flathead screwdriver into the tape slot, wrench it upwards, and then pull the stereo out.

Does it have 2-4 small holes on the facia? If so wire coathanger pashed in as far as they will go and pull the radio out by its gills.

See the Haynes guide said it was suppose to have wee "tabs" to shove some form of tool in, but I couldnt see them, it wasnt helped by the Haynes guide not actually having any pictures of these "tabs".

So, getting mildly irritated with it, I had a think about the problem, and decided that the best way to remove it was to jam a long screwdriver inside it, hammer it a bit to get a grip, then wrench the unit out. Worked a charm, the surrounding dash remained unscathed, although the radio is now in bits, however thankfully, there is indeed a standard radio mount hidden there, and I'll be able to get a new one in easily.

Oh....tip to any people that might want to remove the radio in a Citroen AX in future...the "tabs" you are supposed to "unlatch" with the "special tool" are down the side of the plastic radio surround, in the gap between the surround and the dash on the left and right. I reckon you can easily unlatch them by shoving a thin bladed knife down there.

Two big thick cable ties work wonders ;)
