Removing sink, what do I do with washing machine waste?

Morning,

So I'm trying to sort out a rather buggered old cupboard in my sister's utility room for her, step one is she wants the sink completely removed as not used. I've capped off the hot pipe to tap so far (waiting to make sure it doesn't leak before I do the cold tap pipe too!), And am now thinking how I'm going to adjust the waste pipes as the washing machine is staying where it is...

Do I need to keep the ubend? I've read you maybe don't want the washing machine waste 'sealed in' without an air source (which would have been the sink until I remove it), but not sure what is true or not...anyway, here's a picture, what do you think - can I just adjust the waste pipework so that the washing machine is attached directly, do I keep some form of a ubend, do I need an air inlet valve or some such jobby?

Thanks!

You would normally fit a standpipe incorporating a u bend - e.g. something like this:

your washing machine hose then is just dropped down into the standpipe.

Something like this:

If you later end up needing more than 1 appliance needing to drain e.g. Washing Machine and Dishwasher, you can either fit a side outlet to the standpipe, or having had a quick look they now sell vented caps with dual outlets e.g.

Brilliant, many thanks for the picture - and I totally agree about the electrical socket! It's mounted on the backboard of the cupboard which was all damp and basically fell apart... leaving the mess you can see! Damp problem now sorted, mix of previous owners blocking vents and having a tumble drier that made the room in to a sauna!
