Removing the CPU while WC still intact possible?

Hi all, just refitted my WC rig today and I am not happy with temps on the CPU after my delid.
Idle at mid 30s and very uneven cores.
Im just wondering if anyone has changed the CPU without dismantling the loop?
How hard is it and what are the chances of leakage?
I want to reapply the CLP on the die and reapply the MX4 on the ihs too.

Mid 30s isn't too bad depending on your ambient temp and chip.

I've swapped processors without dismantling before. As long as there's some slack in the tube it will be fine. Just try to move it as little as possible.
 
O I missed that link. Surely 2x280x and a 3770k in the same loop that's damn good at mid 30s?

I've got a 7970 and 3820 with 960mm of rad yet my temps are around the same as yours idle.
 
There isn't as much as slack as there was as I started using 90 degree fittings.
I'll get. Picture of the new plumbing when I get the chance later.
Also changed the setup to a single 780ti.

It's the uneven cores that bothers me a lot. Nearly 10c difference between coolest and hottest core.
I thought delid would have fixed this but I must have applied it wrong.

Do what I did last week, go direct die cooling!!

My 3770k is much cooler and mounts are more consistent without the use of the IHS.

My cores are 1-3c within each other too.
 
I change cpu's and gpu's without draining the loop down. Never had a leak yet. Mid 30's isn't too bad seeing as you have a pair of gpu's in the loop. Personally I prefer my mid 30's while running IBT!! :D

Do you think there's enough slack on the tubing that goes gpu>cpu>rad to pull it out and remove the cpu?
 
Agree with Almighty on this one. I have another couple of inches slack than that plus I don't have that really tight looking run from the top to the front rad in the way. I reckon you are going to have to drain it down to get the cpu out.

Tryied tipping the case and it made temps worse by 5C :o
Really bugging me right now, currently no Asda/Halfords near enough for me to walk and go buy some 5L DI water hence why I dont want to drain/refill the loop.
If I can turn the 90 degree fitting from the radiator, shouldn't that turn the block away from the socket?
Also I was thinking of laying the case flat on its side so I dont risk the CPU bending any pins.
 
You should have enough room to play, i changed the CPU in my build and how the tubes are on the CPU look almost the same as mine, just layed it on its back and messed about for a few mins. Would help if you had a second pair of hands mind

Ive played with my components loads of time without removing the loop, i would just unclip the graphics card first to giv ya some play. I did a volt mod on my graphics card when i first got it without removing the GPU block even, just tilted it back, proped sumthing under it to hold it lvl and got to work.

Throw a towel over your mobo except the area you need to get to if your worried one of the joints might leak under strain.
 
Never mind paper towels, just grab any old towel/rags and stuff them in there. Ya cant go over board on towels.
