Removing the genuine validation in XP??

The CD key would not be on the disc if it was legitimate OEM / Retail media.

Actually there is a CD key located in the "unattend.txt" file on every Windows XP CD but it's not going to activate with Microsoft, it's used for deployment of Windows installations. OEM's typically image a system and then copy the images to multiple machines with identical hardware, they don't sit through and install it on every machine. The Windows setup requires a key to install, even in unattended mode so a 'Generic Key' is used to get through setup which is what is located on the disc. When you fist boot into windows you are asked for the key on the COA which is what is used to activate with Microsoft.

did u borrow the cd with the key? because even if it's genuine u can't use it because it means the other person as already activated/used the key.. windows keys are only allow to run 1 system at a time for retail, and for oem the key can only be activated on 1 system and can't be transfered

yea its not mine i didnt buy it i just borrowed it as im having issues with XP Pro. the guy i got it from works with computers and doesnt do fakes. i did ask him about the key and he said he thinks it didnt need one...but yea it does.

I'll take a pic of it tomorrow and then you can decide but if it is fake then its the best ive ever seen all the writing and stuff is perfect and its a holgram and it aint "stuck on" . it does have like a dodgy green outline though ...

the cd maybe not fake but u need a key of your own... u can't use someone elses key, as i said above..

I'm reasonably certain that you're trying to pirate Windows, you may not have a copied disc, but you don't seem to have a COA or your own licence. Because of this, I think this thread should be closed.
