Sorry if this is a foolish question, but I tried a search and didn't quite find the answer.

When removing TIM should you take the CPU out of the motherboard? I'll be using isopropyl alcohol. Cheers!

That's kind of what I thought!

Ok, stupid question number 2- how do you do it outside the mobo? I assume you dont want to have the CPU face down on a table or anti-static bag, in case you bend the pins. Do you do it in hand?

Also, one of the legs on my current cooler (C2D stock one) seems to be stuck through my mobo. I've removed it before by poking it through the back of the mobo with a screwdriver, but obviously to do this I have to take out the mobo and this is a pain. Anyone got any suggestions?

If you have a C2D CPU as Im assuming from your comment that you have the stock C2D cooler, there arent any pins to bend anyway as the pins are in the socket not on the chip, so you are pretty safe putting it on a flat surface as long as its clean. Even with a chip that has pins, as long as you are careful putting it pin side down is fine in my opinion. Just be gentle with it.

Oh really? OK cool, shows how much I look at my components before putting them together ;)

Any advice on my taking the cooler out problem? It's just one leg on the cooler, think it may be bent or something. I really can't be bothered to remove my mobo!!!
