Removing voice

In a music editing program you need to invert the phase of one of the channels(L or R). as vocals tend to be mixed dead centre they equal out, but so does anything else (bass guitar/keys etc)..

I believe it's how some karaoke machines work. This method does have the tenancy to ruin a track though.

If you take the voice out then you also remove the same frequencies that some instruments use.
I have seen many devices but never heard a good job done.

I've done it to a couple of Elvis songs because the usual backing tracks were beyond rubbish. I used Vogone2 to remove Elvis' voice. It all depends on the song. I've tried it on several and have only had good results with three songs.

I used a bit of software called 'RipEditBurn' if I remember correctly. I created a vocal backing track of Behind Blue Eyes by The Who for my solo vocal performance at college.

It was quite good because all of the harmonies stayed in.

You also need to then merge the two channels as one mono track.
