I'm speaking for my Samsung phones but I imagine most phone cameras have wide angle lens. Is there a way of removing the distortion so that when I take a photo of a square or rectangular object, it actually looks square and rectangular instead of one side looking wider?

It's called barrel distortion (or sometimes lens distortion). Not used Photoshop for years but pretty sure you can correct it there.

You need software as above, I use DXO OpticsPro11 that they were handing out for free before launching new Photolab software. Not sure if you can get it anymore though.

Ah ok. I was hoping that there might be a way to disable the barrel distortion on the phone lens but clearly not.

There is a wide angle lens correction setting on Samsung phones with a wide angle lens. Turn it on in camera settings.

Do you mean the Shape Correction button? It says it corrects distortion in pictures automatically. I tried it and it makes no difference.

No there's another option specifically for the wide angle lens if your phone has a wide angle lens. What phone do you have?

If you click settings while in the camera app on S7 Edge, you have a shape correction option there. Results won't be particularly amazing though, I know because I have that phone :D
