Removing Wii Parental controls - how?

I bought a second hand wii from a shop, unfortunately, the previous owner had set parental controls with a password, to which i have not the foggiest what it is.

Is there any way to remove them without trying to trace the previous owner? I believe its a 4 digit code you put it, to randomly guess it, id have to enter 9999 entries and hope its an early one

On the bottom of the Wii there should be a part than can be unscrewed. This will remove the battery. Take it out for a few mins and it should reset all settings.

I couldnt get that to work, i had to phone nintendo, who were reluctant to give me the code, but a bit of casual persuasion did the job
