Removing window tint film

It's a pain, stanley blade to help peel it off then some petrol or similar to get rid of the glue residue

if you are careful it should peel off in large chunks

Warm the car up, best in a warm garage, if cold it'll just tear and will leave the glue behind, a hairdryer will be useful.

Pick at the edge to get some up then pull it off away from it self, not over itself, as in your pulling it towards you not tearing it away.

Some kind of thinners will get the glue off, use only a tiny amount in small patches as all you do is smear the glue around, it's a proper pain and window tinting co's charge by the hour to get it off

Don't use a stanley to scrape the glue off, you'll scratch the glass

I used solvent degreaser in a spray can to remove the residue... gentle heat with a hairdryer all over the film first helps to get it started, pick if off from the edge and go slow, applying heat from a hairdryer as you work your way down/across.

Good luck

Its nightmare.! lol
Peel the film off from the corner of the window, heat the glass up with some hot water from the outside, then use some nail varnish remover and an old credit card to scrap away the glue thats on the inside that has been left over.

Hair-Dryer, Hot-Air Gun, melt the glue, peel away, clean any residue with WD40/Petrol/Alcohol.

Go on owners club forums of said car, and make a most seeing if anyone wants to swap the glass like for like. Could probably haggle some beer tokens for it as well.

I've already got another window without tint, it's scratched though so I want to use the existing one.

Not unless you use a rusty old blade. A new sharp stanley or razor blade will not scratch glass. The glass obviously needs to be free of grit etc.

Rubbish, most car glass is curved so the edges of the Stanley blade digs in, been there done that, best suggestion above old credit card

Good old nail varnish remover. (& if you're brave enough score the film not criss cross. Scratches are on your head tho..edit no don't bother, ease away film with blade or whatever & apply nail varnish remover etc as you go. never tried heat gun, wish I'd have thought of that at the time.)

Is it an elec opening door window? I'd suggest removing it or at least have access to the whole area thru door panelling if that's possible. It's hard getting the last remnants of glue/tint off below (if applicable) the rubber trim in which the window disappears down into. I know this from experience & when summer kicked in the window would "stick" when the remaining glue around/below the line got tacky & eventually the cable in the window mechanism snapped, leading me to take door apart anyway to replace.

Good luck it's a pain. (**** you vosa lol)

Wish I'd read other posts properly first. :o

Either the windows on my ZS 180 are made of some incredible new material a millions times harder than glass, the windows you have scraped were made of processed cheese, or you don't know what you are doing.

A sharp, clean steel blade simply doesn't "dig in" to glass unless something else is present like rust or grit. A razor blade is even better as it will more easily conform to any curvature.

Q. Do metal scrapers or razor blades scratch glass.
A. No. Metal scrapers and razor blades alone will not scratch glass.
