Rename and reorganise music folders, not Files

Thanks to a search on here I've been using Musicbrainz Picard (+CovertArt and DiscNo plugins) to resort my music collection and then MP3Tag to manually embed any album art Musicbrainz cannot find.

What I would like to do now is a program which renames and reorganise the folders the files are in.

Is there such a program that does this?

Found it! Tag&Rename has a specified 'Rename Folder' function that can rename multiple folders according to how you choose.

I tried Mediamonkey but gave up, a few unknown file organisers and even downloaded ITunes but found the file organisation tool sloppy at best.

I also use Treesize Pro to check for random files which aren't music files and weed out any sub folders which go above the 2nd level.

I now can sort near 13,000 files. Awesome!

MusicBrainz lets you rename the folder the music files are in you realise? I did this with a lot of my music as the folder names weren't always consistent with the album name. Plus it saved me from needing to manually move ripped music from my temp area to my music folders.

I searched through MusicBrainz but cannot find any option to rename folders. Care to share how?

It's part of the file move. If you give it a structure like:

%album%/%track% %title% [going off memory here with the tags]

Then when it renames the file after getting the correct data, it will also move the file to a new folder with the album name. Better still, if the old location is empty you can tell it to delete it, saving you a job!

You just have to fiddle with it, as it is not entirely intuitive.

I am renaming the file, but it doesn't seem to change the file directory. I've toggled the Move File option as well.

Even still, it doesn't let me name the folder in the options.

Tag&Rename allows me to change it so I can include the year for example.

[%Year] %artist - %title

Under File naming I have

%artist%/%album%/$num(%tracknumber%,2) %title%

Rename files when saving is checked.

Under Moving files I have set M:\Music as the directory to move files to when saving.

There are lots of tags to alter the file name, just need to look em up.
