Renamed 8800 GT pictured.

I was talking to Loadsa about this earlier - why are these 9 series? Why aren't they making them into a sort of "GT240" to sit below the GTX260?

GTX series uses second generation unified shaders, nVidia may have some wierd naming but they I dont think they would taint the new GTX series by shoving a geforce 8 into it.

i do actualy agee with him. i mean green is so ugly on a graphics card. it aint hard for them to make it black and make it look a lot more stylish in ** case is it.

I've got a sporty blue red and black combo going on in my case. Quite contemporary I am told.

or not.. why tf are we talking about PCB colours?? :p

I wish they'd stop putting larger numbers in front of the same cards to get people to buy them. I would lol if I heard of anyone changing their 8800GT for a 9800GT to realise it performs the exact same.

The entire Geforce 9 series owes its existance to someone making a typo with the 8800GT and they've been tryng to sort out the mess ever since.

9600 series should have been 8700 series
8800GT, 8800GTS 512MB and whole 9800 series should have been 8900 series.

Job done. Maybe whack a '50' on the end if it does Tri or quad SLI.

Why do they have to change the naming scheme every chuffing generation? The geforce 6 series was probably the nearest they've come to a sensible naming scheme in recent years. LE, Vanilla, GT, GTX, Ultra. What was wrong with that? The eejits even managed to water that down evenually.

I don't think this GTX260, GTX280 etc is going to help much, unless they stick to the convension.

ATI's naming scheme is almost coherent at the moment. I just hope they stick to it.
