Hi,

I have recently taken out a 24 month PCP on a Renault Zoe. I have been offered Alloy Wheel & Minor Damage cover but the Renault Dealership and am just wondering if anyone has any experience of this?

The price is £356 for the full 24 months and each claim has a £10 excess.

The detail I have says:

Minor damage protection will cover smart repairs to your car for typical things like dents, scuffs, stone chips etc (anything up to 15cm)

Alloy cover will cover up to 10 wheel refurbishments/cosmetic repairs with just a £10 excess.

I am a little tempted by this but would just like to know if there are alternatives available, if anyone has taken this and had issues or if the general consensus is to avoid these types of cover.

I am not a fan of these bolt on products but this sounds like a reasonable solution to inevitable marks assuming they don't argue every single mark.

How is your driving?

Consider that an alloy wheel refurb costs about £60 a wheel, an entirely new alloy about £100-130 or so for that car I'd expect, how much damage would you need to do for your £365 over 2 years to be worthwhile? The last paint smart repair I had done cost me £50 as well. You'd have to do lots of damage for this ever to be worthwhile.

With a £10 excess each time as well theres no way I can consider this as value for money, you'd be better sticking £365 in some savings account in case something happened, and pay for any marks or damage that occurs. If you're a careful driver you're unlikely to do £365 worth of minor damage in two years, and for any more significant damage you are already covered for the repairs through your own insurance policy anyway.

Would never bother with a product like this at the price they are suggesting.

Have you seen the Renault wheels recently? The ones on my Clio seem to be laser etched and painted, the Zoe ones are also quite complex and seem to be etched (it's like a ridged texture on the silver part of the wheels). Can they be refurbished? I've only had mine 6 months and the wife used it once and came back with half the circumference of the near side front ground off. That's gonna cost when I hand it back!

Full refurbished around here (strip sand blast powered) is £35 a wheel.

can do 10 wheels for the cover cost

Where is here? Genuine Q as I've got about 12 wheels that need sorting and I know that sort of price is achievable but can't find anywhere to do them for me.

City Powder coaters will blast and powder, Place in Hinckley will give the damaged edges a brief sand to smooth them then blast and powder for £5-£10 more than City Powder Coaters. Not a perfect finish but the powder if thick covers the left overs.

If you want a very good perfect finish then its going to cost £50-£70 a wheel at these painting places.
I dont see the point in that though as they will be buggerd again sooner rather than later lol

Aha people had mentioned City Powdercoaters in the past and I'd forgotten their name :)

Biggest problem is flaking paint on most of them, it's only on some wheels used on daily cars and my track wheels so not fussed about perfect :)

Thanks,
Alex
