I had a new line installed by Gigaclear nearly 18 months ago and as expected am about to come to the end of my £29pm for 900mb up&down.

What success have people had with Gigaclear renewals or make the switch to Squirrel...

I'm with Gigaclear. I've just passed my 18 month cheap deal.

I've found the service fast, good and reliable.

The thing is, I was paying £38 for FTTC 80/20 in my previous house including line rental.

So paying £40 for 150/150 is very good to me. I would have done a lot / paid a lot for a service like this. I'm now in the middle of nowhere with lightening fast internet. Heaven.

I can't see the above package on their website, so I guess I keep quiet.

It seems 'nuts' that Squirrel piggy back onto their network and you can flip-flop between the two when your deal ends.

Do I want 500+ speeds? Yes.

Do I need it? No.

If this was a big company, then it's all about haggling. For now, I will watch this thread and see what you do.. Over to you @harryface

Slightly off topic. My village is due to have FTTP installed by Gigaclear but weve been waiting 2+ years.

What happens with the install? Do they do the road then all the houses? Or only install to your house when you sign up?

How long from install to getting service?

Hello!

For the village I moved away from, they installed the fibre in shallow trenches all around the village. When you signed up, they then ran a duct to your home and installed the gubbins inside your house. I can't give you a time. If you're an early adopter, it can take ages. If everyone else has theirs, then I believe it would be quick to install.

And.....they went bankrupt

And I'm not surprised. Strung us along for years with false promises and a shambles of communications or lack of, spent 10s of thousands belatedly running fibre to us only to seemingly lose interest at the last 30m claiming it would cost far too much but mostly seemed to be a lack of organisation and interest in getting the last bit connected up.

I spoke to them a month before the end of my contract (as requested) and they offered to match squirrel but wouldn't beat it £49 for 900mb.

Phoned up again two weeks later and they offered me £39 for 900mb, which I accepted.

I was considering cancelling it all and taking out a new contract in my wife's name... I couldn't find anything in Gigaclear's T&C's explicitly stating you cannot do that.

And.....they went bankrupt

Thanks for sharing! Guess we'll see how long my new contract lasts....
