Did a search but couldn't find anything about this...

Basically is there any place you can rent an actual console from? Thing is, I want to play GTAIV and complete it, but I don't want an Xbox 360 other than to play this game. So I was thinking of buying an Xbox and GTAIV and playing the game, and then selling both straight after, but that's quite a bit of effort....So can I rent a console from a shop somewhere?

Cheers

It doesnt, NokkonWud is suggesting you may want to keep it after if there are any other games out there. Can you not borrow a PS3 / 360 from a mate? Maybe buy a Wii and then swop over for a month.

Na don't really know anyone with one I could borrow. Only person I know with one lives about 200 miles from me :p

I don't want an Xbox because I know I'll spend too much money on it...there are other games I wouldn't mind playing, but I would mind paying £40 for each of them when I want a Wii more and so will spend my money on that instead...!

so play them in release order - tons of games going for 10 -20 quid brand new and you have 2.5 years to catch up on :D

Or create an account with LoveFilm/swapgame and rent things :) 14.99pm I pay @ lovefilm - winner tbh :)

Your not going to be able to play GTA then...

To answer your question, no, you can't rent a console from what i can gather.

I'll save you the time and effort, don't buy a wii. I have had one since launch and it just gathers dust.

Thanks for answering the actual question lol! And it looks like I'll have to buy one and then sell it. And I'm getting a Wii....my mate has one and I play on it all the time. I'd buy it for Mario Kart alone.

The video shop in the town where I grew up used to rent out SNES and Megadrive consoles for a fiver per weekend... but that was about 15 years ago when consoles weren't as common as they are nowadays.

Not seen anywhere that does it for many years. Think you might have to buy one and then flog it on. Have you thought about sourcing one on the MM rather than buying one brand new? You might be able to flog it for roughly the same price you paid for it, so you'll not lose out financially.

ps - I love the Wii... best console this generation, imo. But I'm not dazzled by bling (that's what my PC is for ;))

There are no other games on any of the consoles you fancy playing?
I can't believe that for a second.

Gran Turismo Prologue / 5 when it's out.
GTA IV.

Devil may cry 4 but it's coming for pc.
Burnout but it's coming for pc too.

No other interesting games on console tbh.
I'd love to rent a ps3, but I can't :(.

'Fraid not. I had a proper look around before I eventually had to give up and shell out for an Xbox to play 'IV.

I remember the good old days when you could rent a megadrive for a week for about £10...if you weren't lucky enough to own one. ¬.¬

I recall even as recently (ish) as PS1 you could rent the console etc from the rental place in town. Worth checking on the off chance.

I DON'T WANT AN XBOX GAAAAH
You are banging your head against a brick wall in here :)

If you are getting a Wii after you have completed GTA IV, why not buy an Xbox 360 with GTAIV in a bundle...(stick with me here)...and then trade it in against a Wii when you are done with it.

I'm a genius ;)

Because trading it into a shop means I'll get far less for my Xbox than I would if I sold it and then bought a Wii. Games shops give you a pittance for what you trade in.

It's been so long since I ventured into the computer forums of OcUK that I had completely forgotten about fanboyism :p
This should get them riled:

AMD > Intel
Ati > Nvidia
Nintendo > Sony
Wii > Xbox
N64 > PS1
Blue > Red
Cabbage > Lettuce

BOO YA!

Heretic!! :p

I remember going into a library of all places a while ago in Newcastle and they were lending out PS2's in the same way they do with books (except you had to pay like a fiver a week).

Thing is consoles are more expensive than they were when I saw that, so I doubt unless it's a well-funded library they'll do that anymore

Buy one on the internet and return it within a week under distance selling laws, probably cheapest way.
