Hi all, I'm finding it hard to come up with someone I know well for a charcter ref, what sort of people are suitable. I know teachers coucillers etc are...

I tend to get my boss to give one, they've got to contact him anyway for employment references and we're good friends so it's the lowest hassle approach

I have already put down an employee reference and it does state they should be different on the application.

Is it one of those references where it says they must know you well, but must not be a friend or relative? I hate those.

Haven't rented before, it's a little vague on who the reference can be. I might just speak to them tomorrow and ask if my boss would be ok to do it. I can't see why that wouldn't be ok really. And as mentioned it would save a lot of hastle.

I know loads of lecturers and academic types etc but have not been in contact with them for ages, and feel bad phoning up asking if it would be ok to do me a reference. :(

What is the point of the references anyway? It always irritated me when renting from a letting agent. If you can pay the rent and pass a credit check, what's the problem.

don't want some moving in that likely to have parties every night and recking the place

And how would having a character reference prove or guarantee anything? It is stupid. Obviously anyone you ask to give a reference, you know they are going to give a favourable one or you wouldn't ask them.

Indeed that's what I don't understand, it's not as if I would put someone down who may give me a bad reference......

I've found that letting agents dont actually bother getting references or doing anything that they say they will.

I've used two different agents and neither have got references from my employer even though they stated they would not let the property without full references.

It seems they just want to take the fee's for doing nothing

they should do!

We send off to all people thst are put down as references! It protects us as well as the property!

It also helps if you have more than one application as we then give all references to the landlord and they then choose the tenant they want!

Stinky do your agents allow the same ref for employee and for character? Is it a written form? any further info
