Renting Servers

It all depends what you rent. IF its just a server then you can only modify game parameters like round time, map rotation etc. This are cheap and only cost around £5 a slot, depending on game.
You can also rent a dedicated box that willl alow you to run various games but is much more expensive. Look at multiplay or rackage i ve used them before and aren't to bad.
 
I rent a dedicated server from Multiplay.

They might not be the cheapest, but their management system is a doddle and I have rented one for years off them now.
 
I use Gameservers.com for l4d1+2 ocuk3 + l4d2 ocuk4 and a dedi server for other computer game servers.

I did use INX and although their technical support is very good, their servers randomly failed too often for me to stick with them.

Looking for a private 8 slot server for AvP3 (When it is out.) I have been in contact with a few of the sites mentioned and they say that they will have it.

I don't know what tickrate is.
What difference does location make?

£5 per slot is very expensive :|
 
An 8 slot private server will cost around the same as the advertised prices for L4D / L4d2 servers.

You should be looking at no more than £8 per month. :)
