Hi all,
Have a Dell Studio 1558 i5 430M 2.26ghz/full hd screen/dedicated graphics 512mb ATI HD 4570/500gb hdd/4gb ram (cant remember the exact spec)
At the time of writing this is 9 years old (!), bought direct from Dell, at the time I believe this was quite a decent spec. I have been out of the game for a while but as my Ipad is on its way out and I feel the need for a 'proper' computer more and more, I was thinking about what I do next. I have no idea really how the above spec compares to modern offerings.
Its on its last legs frankly, takes decades to boot up and is slow. It needs a new lid (~£30) but otherwise cosmetically fine.
I can upgrade to 8gb ram, new SSD drive and purchase Win10 (unless this can still be had for free?), for sub £200.
Is it worth doing for what is essentially old tech? Or am I better of spending a bit more on a newer model?
Main use will be older games (AoE etc.) and web browsing, office etc., nothing heavy.
Thoughts please.
