Ok i need to do a windows system repair on one of my PC's today due to a virus. This is an old PC which had XP embedded on the hard drive. I dont have the original disk or the recovery CD's but do have a brand new copy of XP. Can i use this CD for the repair or will i have to format the HD and do a fresh install?

Yes you can use that for the repair but it will re-ask for the key and activation. Effectively, it's a reinstallation with the loss of settings and data.
