Hi. Got a 5ft Fence post which is fixed into a Brick wall. Slowly becomming wobbly in all this high winds we have had lately.

Any idea how one would fix a wooden post that is fitted into a brick wall?

I can sort them, when there into earth/soil etc.

But not sure about this one. Im no brick layer etc so. guidance ?

Thanks

is it fitted into a Brick wall but fixed into the ground with concrete ?

I'm confused is it a post with a wall on either side ?

4x4 wooden post. Inserted into Brick wall. Imagine top of wall and bricks cut out enough to allow post to fall into square hole.

No wall either side. Long Brick wall which Panels sit on inbetween posts.

Here we go, Just took a photo for you all.

Where the post goes into that brick. It is loose, wobbly. Top Brick (either side) moves.

On the basis of "if it moves and it shouldn't, duct tape, if it should move but it doesn't, wd-40" I'd have to go with 'duct tape'

Does it only go into the brick work or into the ground then bricked round it?

if the former then you could chisel out some mortar and refill fill it with ready mix cement

is the mortar around it loose?

Post would lift out. Post moves and you can also see the top half brick moving either side.

Perhaps best to pull post out. But Fence panels are nailed to post. So that will be a fun job. Just wanted some pointers.

You could sink a concrete post behind it then strap the wooden one to it.

TBH that looks pretty shoddy, do you know if the post extends into that brickwork any further? 1/4 of the post should be in the ground or built into something, a 5ft post anchored in by 100mm or so is only going to fall over.

You can buy the bolt on metposts http://www.diy2u.net/prodimages/fmpbd01_5.jpg and bolt into the brickwork with chemanchors

Bump. As I was OP. These winds we are having today. It really is coming loose.

So think I will have to pull it out and try a repair job on it tomorrow. If the wind keeps up it will be down very soon. Put some wheelie bins next to it for time being.

So did you tell your wife you'd get it sorted in February? ;)

As said before:
remove fence panel each side. Remove post. Remove loose brick work. Re-lay bricks. Reset post in concrete base.

If you can increase the amount the post is set into the ground the better.
