its a full strip down to do it, take all the screws out the base, take the panels and hard drive and cd drive out, check for hidden screws under the panels they should all be the same size, there might be a few silver ones under the hard drive bay.

flip it over pop the keyboard strip cover off
keyboard out carefull with the delicate connectors use a jewellers screwdriver to pop them up or out,
screws out the top, leave the screen atteached you may have to route the wifi cables from under neath, again pop the antenna connectors of the wifi card
disconnect the lcd and speaker cables lift the lid up and you can now see the dc socket and broken housing.

I've just repaired a Packard Bell Easynote for the same thing . The square socket is soldered onto the motherboard . I bought the socket from a company on ebay . I think is was a fiver , sent from the Isle of Man .
Not sure if you mean the same thing though .........power plug is the one that fits onto the power socket soldered on to the mobo.

this socket it is on a cable so can be replaced rather than soldered, it plugs into the mainboard, but sometimes a knock can break the plastic that the socket slots into.

Ok lads thanks v much for the info, i'll take it slow me thinks, this will be the first laptop stripdown  "wish me luck i'm going in" lol......
will post back when complete or stuck :D

I was hoping to just change the plastic housing? and not the wires,
just waiting for a price etc, cant believe the amount of screws used to hold all the parts quite an interesting job tbh.

the black socket is part of the flat cable that plugs under the mainboard and is all one part,

i do it for a living and its quite a varied job with new models coming out all the time

there should be a couple on the mainboard with arrows and you might have to take the vga nuts out bend the plastic out where the headphone jacks are, just take your time and good luck
