Doing this on my macbook pro takes two minutes but on my macbook air it is taking an hour, Does my mac book air have a problem

Is it the new Macbook Air - with the SSD? or and older one with a 4200 RPM disk? Are they both on Snow Leopard?

If it is with the 4200 there is your answer. If it has the SSD it should be faster even than your Pro which will have a 7200 RPM drive.

Depends what's wrong tbh.

Try booting from the OS X install DVD, and running Disc Utility there?

Not all MBP's have 7,200 rpm drives. Mine came with a 5,400 and the base specs today still come with 5,400 rpm drives.

If it's the new Air with the onboard SSD, it should be faster at repairing disk permissions, not slower.

My 11" Air repairs in a little over a minute.
