Hio, hoping to fix this mp3 player I’m borrowing off my GF (she’s got a new one) and it's nearly 3 years old so out of warranty.

I know the cause is the 3.5 phono connector (headphones socket thing). It pretty much broke off and i tried to fix it by bending its legs down and aralditing it in place. This kind of worked but if the jack if push away from the PCB at all it loses contact = no music. Unfortunately this happens all the time if you walk and I’m hoping to use it while running so is pointless as is.

Pics:

My first thought was to solder is but the original ones are all done by surface mounting ala small and hard to do. What do you think is the best option? Any other possibilities apart from soldering (guess could get a smaller tip for my S-iron)?

Thanks

I'll try get a tip next time i get a chance. How small do they go and is it fine to use any tip in any iron? Hardest bit is that there is a connector behind what you can see in those pics in the middle and two at left and right hand side on the side you can see (is the further away one thats borked in the pics). Not sure if i'll be able to get a tip in the left one at all, but i'll give it a go.
