Hi :)

So my TFT's warranty expired a year ago and now it's broke down on me. I see a brief glimpse of an image and then it disappears...maybe the back light has gone or something. I asked Viewsonic for an approved repairer and they passed me the number for Repairtech and they don't seem good at all in terms of customer service and turnaround time after looking them up on several forums.

Made two calls today and was told twice the person providing quotes will call me back and then discovered she had gone home. Surely there is more than one person capable of providing me a quote. Anyway, first impressions, not good at all and I don't feel like sending my TFT to them only to end up with a potentially high phone bill from chase calls and possibly a botched repair.

Any recommendations/advice appreciated. :D

Sounds to me like an electronics fault rather than a backlight fault.

If it is the backlight (CCFL tubes), then it is not worth the repair because they will either replace the panel or have to order in replacement tubes, and they can normally only be ordered in high quantities (1000pcs). Thus you will have to pay way more than what you will actually get (1 CCFL tube is about £2-3).

If it is the inverter or scalar board, then it might be repairable.

What type of monitor is it?

Thanks for the reply.

It's a 19 inch Viewsonic VX912. Spoke to Repairtech who quoted me...

£20 for diagnosis
£20 for fixed labour
and part/s. Maybe £25 for back light.

Going to try Lumaco now. :)

Let me know how you get on, sods law ill find myself in the same situation with my brothers or my old monitor... both 4 years old but faultless! :D

Spoke to a guy called Richard this afternoon from Lumaco who was very friendly and helpful. He estimated £60-65 for the repair including delivery back to me and recommended parcel2go.com to courier it to him. Pleasant and personal call rather than the experience I had with Repairtech who obviously have a call centre with everyone under pressure to take as many calls as opposed to delivery good customer service.

Lumaco it will be! :D

Thanks Sweeney.
