I've got an X800 non pro, with arctic cooler in the second pc and, due to the deals going on here, I'm looking at upgrading to summat a bit/a lot faster. I'm looking at the X800 GTO16, with 16 pipes/ overclockability and all that, but would it be enough of an improvement over the original, but I've got to take into account cost and the GTO certainly is cheap enough.
I checked MM, but what X800's are/were there are a bit overpriced I feel.
Wadya reckon?
 
hey pieman i take it we're talking pci-express here as the GTO 16 is of course a PCi-Express card! Now i know that does the whole 16 pipelines thing but of interest a new thread has opened up about the follwoing card on this week only:

Now apparently this card has the r480 core as there are a few success stories so far :D and also comes with the high quality HiS cooler which if successful will be much better IMO! However the GTO 16 will be more of a guarentee i guess

However improvement wouldnt be too much to be fair! Id throw some more cash foward and try and pick up a 7800/7900gt or the x1800xt 256meg! Thats if yopu have the cash available because then you would see significant differences!
 
You've really confirmed what I was thinking, its a pity there isn't an ATI card in the £150-£160 range going S/H atm, I'll have a look at the 7800GT option. Cheers mate.
 
check the Members Market man ;) might get a steal in there! Sure I seen a x1800xt 512 going fairly cheap but welshtome might have got in there! But im glad iv confirmed what you wanted to hear because with out going to current/"last" gen cards you wouldnt see any difference at all! So maybe save a few pennies or something unless you get a bargain somewhere
