Reparing Windows Boot

Hello,

I've been asked to fix my mates PC as when it turns on during the XP loading screen it just reboots again even if trying to enter safemode - rather then formatting is there a way to fix the boot.ini or anything similar to get windows to boot?

Yeah if you have a windows xp disk, put in in and press and key to boot from it. I can't reme,ber the exact option but you can choose to input commands from here, one of them is fixboot but can't remember the others, but if you type help a full list should show up.

Using Vista myself i assume i candownload a bootdisk?

i would try resetting CMOSS back to default settings with the jumper
on the motherboard before messing about with the windows recovery console

commands that may help while in the recovery console are

fixboot
fixmbr

enter the console via the xp disk

I tend to use the recovery console and do:
chkdsk
fixboot
bootcfg /rebuild
