If you haven't corrected an advisory from a previous MOT, will the current testing be an instant fail?

The locking mechanism on one of my rear doors broke. It's completely sealed shut. I have no uses of this door whatsoever so I've never bothered with what appears to be a complex and costly fix.

MOT station issued an advisory on it last year, will it fail this time around?

:)

What if you had an advisory one year, did nowt about it, and never got an advisory for it again? Haha... happens to me a lot.

Agreed, they vary between testers. Some testers love listing things like stickers on windscreens etc. Some have better things to do!

I get one every year for having adjustable suspension. Why they feel the need to advise me of it I have no idea

with golfs its common to have advisories on front top mounts and rear bearings simply due to their design

i had no advisories this year, but did on the rear bearings last year and didnt touch them in between, so its down to the testers understanding of whats going on

Of course, it depends on what the advisory is. If it was for a component which was not quite at the point where it would fail an MOT, but very close to it, then you might well end up failing next time through the additional wear and tear.

I had an advisory for slight play in my old Mondeos Steering rack for three years in a row. It never got any worse and was never replaced before the whole car was scrapped.

I had one for a cracked number plate for about 3 years in a row, finally got it sorted on the last MOT.
