Replace 1080ti with 2080 Super

Is there a desperate need to buy right now? Wait 3 to 4 months for the next generation of graphics cards and you will get more for your money.

How much is the rtx 3080 likely to cost?
I've ordered a pc with a 2080 super but the build time is taking ages! And thinking of cancelling and waiting

I don't think it would be a stretch to think that the 3070 will roughly match the 2080 ti in performance and for less money than what a 2080 cost right now. We saw it with the 970 matching the 780/780ti, the 1070 matching the 980ti and only the 2070 was lackluster because there weren't really anyone for nvidia to fight at the time. Ampere is going to have to bring it's A-gamew and it seems like Nvidia is doing just that. I would wait.

I reckon either buy used or b grade/refurb to tide you over if you want a new toy or wait.

I wouldn't buy a full rrp gpu right now.

I reckon since amd have the means to compare this round with nvidia on the high end we should see more reasonable prices this gen. Hopefully a lot less than the 2080 series prices i think.

I'm not so sure. They were 2 years behind IMO and I doubt they'll make all that up especially when it comes to new features they've not yet implemented (RT). NV will be on RT v2
Fair play if they do though - would be good to see closer competition. After all, AMD caught up and overtook in the CPU area.

OP, just wait it out. While you may not be able to justify top end next gen, for the money you now spend on a 2080 Super you'll likely get much more for your money, even if it's just a 3070 next time, which should be a good amount faster than the 2080 Super

Wait please you won't regret it. That's free advice you simply won't regret. Cancel the order.

Been sitting around thinking long and hard about new GPU's too, across the board prices are up and as said above we are so close to a generation leap.

Have to say nearly bought a card several times myself though, the temptation is real!

Finally convinced myself to sit and wait for a bit and see what happens!

The 1080 TI has a decent pixel rate, higher than the RTX 2080 Super, which has fewer ROPs. The 1080 TI is quite a capable 4K GPU.

Why not just wait for Nvidia's / AMD's next gen?
