replace 2x256 &1x512 for 2x1gig

well i replaced my 2x256 1x512 for 4 1gb

Guy's do you know if i replace my 2x256 & 1x512 ddr pc3200 with 2x 1 gig ddr pc3200 i would get a better performance from my computer.
what do you think.
you can see my current spec in my sig.

Cheers FrannoBaz i have just ordered 4gb and doing away with the other ram.
do you think i will see a marked improvement in games that i play fear/c&c 3 etc.

I have:

Asus P4C800-E
P4 2.8GHz @ 3359MHz (240fsb)
2Gb G.skill PC3200 @ 240fsb (2.5-3-2-7)
XFX 7900GS

and when I upgraded my memory from 4x256mb of Kingston Hyper X PC3200 @ 230fsb to my gskill 2gb, I noticed quite an increase in performace in CNC3 and I was able to up my graphics settings slightly to - and I was running the 2gb kit at stock speeds aswell as my CPU! - also I was using a 6600GT graphics card to.

One other thing, if your running winxp 32bit which I presume you are, you wont be able to use the full 4Gb, more like 3gb (You can install 4gb fine, just it wont show in windows)
 
Yeah i did read about the 4gb problem with xp32 but i wanted the duel memory and i thought what the hell it was so cheap so i just went for the 4gb.

Do you run your overclocked CPU synchronized or asynchronous with the memory? What memory have you ordered?
 
i have no idea im a bit of a noob when it comes to overclocking i changed everything i bios and clocked it up till the system crashed i havent oc'd the memory. the memory i bought is samsung 1GB PC3200 DDR 400 RAM DIMM
cheap and nasty on ebay.
im not really to worried about the quality as i will be building a new system in july when intel drops there quad price's and i will get so top ram then.

Ah fair enough. I overclocked my P4 to 3.5GHz but didn't overclock the memory, when I decided to overclock the memory as high as it would go (230fsb) with the 1:1 ratio I noticed an improvement even though my CPU was 300mhz slower (14*230 = 3220MHz).

DDR II Prices are going to be increasing soon, so perhaps the intel price drops wont make much difference as ram will be more expensive? ;) July, thats only a month away - you should have waited a month!
 
yeah maybe but hopefully i should get the ram a little cheaper than a quad cpu as it stands now. yeah bu i saw this ram on ebay dirt cheap so i thought what the hell and hopefully i should see a marked improvment in cnc3 with any luck

Good point, I got fed up of CNC3 running slow I decided to get new ram and then a new graphics card a few weeks later (wanted to play on high/ultra high settings @ 1680x1050) - but I didn't want to buy a new system as I am supposedly moving to the land down under around september.
 
well i spoke to soon about getting dirt cheap ram off ebay of the 4 1gb strips i bought only 1 strip works so im no better off than when i started lol.
i have emailled the chap who i bought it from but im not to hopeful i may get a refund if im lucky. i have seated them correctly but the comp just wont boot if i remove the one working strip is there anything i could do or do you think they are dead
