Replace 2x7950 with Fury X?

Hi all

I was thinking of a PC overhaul but from what I've read theres not much point upgrading my CPU at the moment, I simply won't really gain much.

I'm looking to replace the crossfire setup due to poor support and heat issues with a single card.

It will need to run 3x24" dell u2412m via DP (currently 1xDVI and 2xDP) and would be nice if it could handle Eyefinity across them all at 6000x1200.

Would it be a good fit to go with the Fury X or should I look at the 980Ti?

Thanks
Neil

The Fury X should be better as crossfire has its problems, they also run cool and put the heat out of the case. The Fury none X might also be a good option?

I dont have any problems at 1440p.

It depends what games you play but if you simply want to play it safe you need to get something with more than 4 gb's. My Fury has had ram issues with a couple of games and I use 1440p via vsr on a 1080p monitor.

Don't start this argument again!

He made a valid point. If you want to replace a Tahiti crossfire set up with something that will last, you will need to choose something with more than 4 gb's of memory. Don't get me wrong, since I've had my Fury pro it's given me a close to perfect experience, There's been one or 2 hiccups like the power saving feature when they released the Crimson software and the odd late driver release for game releases but that's it, The card itself has been great, running cool and quiet while offering great performance, However there have been examples of games becoming unplayable with max settings even though the fps is fine due to the memory while owners of the lower tier 8 gb cards have been fine. The high profile example is ROTTR.

Thanks for the replys guys :)

Changed my mind completely! Went with a 980Ti Palit Super Jetstream. Damn its whisper quiet next to my old ICEQ boosts!

Nice choice, Personally I would have stayed on my 7970 crossfire set up or bought a 390 to remove the dual card driver issues and waited for a few more months for the new cards but you got the current gamer king, enjoy.

Wouldn't recommend a 4GB Fury card - even 1080P games are starting to push that to it's limits.

lol!

This again. As I was saying in the other thread, kaaps saying 4GB not being enough for 4k so many times that people now think it is not even enough for 1080p. Kaaps must have got to this fella :D

As mentioned, loads of people are happy to recommend 970 with it's 3.5Gb(+.5) but a full 4gb on an amd card, is not enough

the price difference might have something to do with it

Good choice if you couldn't have waited for Polaris/Pascal, as the Furys don't have enough memory.

I personally would have waited at least for AMD Polaris release, and maybe for nvidia response later this year, as 7950 is not horrible card to have let alone 2 of them. But that's just me.

I would have waited as well.

As for the 4GB issue, it has been done to death. Right now 4GB is enough in all but the couple of circumstances, but the guy has Xfire 7950's, these cards were released over 4 years ago now, I'm fairly certain that if he keeps his new card for another 4 years he will be glad he didn't only get 4GB ram, By then even 6 wont be enough.
