Got a 256mb Aopen 6800GT. Bought it 2 years ago so its agp :( , looking to upgrade whole system and need a pci-e card, spent £250 on this baby back then but i am not a gamer anymore but want a resonable upgrade. What would recommend money isn't an issue (well under £200 if poss) but want to spend as little as possible and get some speed increase.

Personally I'd steer clear of older cards like the x850 which lacks SM3 support. Get something a bit beefier like the x1800xt 256meg @ £152

hi,
having upgraded my system just recently and went from a gf 6800gt to an ati x1800 xt... well impressed and deffo worth considering.
just look at the general praise it gets on these forums for performance/price value.
all the best,
steve.

Whats the nvidia alternative?

Last cards were, Radeon 8500, GF4 ti4600, Rad9700pro then this so i am not a nvidiot :p

The nvidia rough equivalent would be the 7900GT I think, it's a bit more expensive though and there's an unresolved issue with reliability with them unfortunately. At that price and performance the X1800XT is great value for money...although clearly I would say that, I bought one of the things! :p

Decied to stick with my 6800GT and get an AMD X2 instead of conroe. At around £300 cheaper i can live with with the lower performance
