I've just stupidly put a scratch in the screen of my 2015 15" MBP. :(

I have AppleCare, but I assume it's not going to be covered, so what are my options?

I expect getting Apple to do it will cost a bomb, especially with the recent price increases.

If I got a local independed to fix it would it void the warranty?

is it a applecare plus? they will exchange even if is a accident.

if not then....unfortunately you need to buy a lcd panel which cost £132.92 or whole screen assembly £262.18.

replacing the lcd panel is not easy. As apple use lot of strong adhesives to secure the lcd panel in place.
even if you manage to get the lcd panel out. you need to be careful with the backlight diffuser sheets. they are extremely fragile and any dust or fingerprints will ruined the 5 sheets. if you are OCD, then you can forget about this.

so it is better to buy the whole assembly or simply live with the scratches.

A local independent are not guaranteed to have Apple parts and Apple may get funny about the warranty. Try your luck with AppleCare, if not then Apple's repair prices are not as bad as you may think.

Thanks guys.

metachi, I don't think you can do AppleCare+ for Macbook Pros, only iPhone.

However, £262 for the whole screen asembly is less than I thought, so that's positive. Where did you find that price out of interest?

Doosky, that's what I thought about the warranty — I'll get in touch with Apple and see what they have to say.

If you have an apple store near you i'd take it in their for a quote. I think they tend to just replace the whole assembly, they done that with my air before that had a bit of a dead zone on it.
