Hi,

I've recently considored replacing my Dell 2209UA - IPS panel, with a 24" sized screen.

I'm really worried that I'll get a bigger screen, but with a poorer quality picture - as the IP{S panel on the Dell is truely amazing - best monitor I've ever owned.

Can anyone recommend me a good replacement - ideally I'd like exactly the same monitor, but 24" :)

Thanks

What do you use the screen for?

I couldn't really justify upgrading from Dell 2209WA to a 24" monitor unless it was an IPS panel one or 120Hz for fast paced gaming.

Took a risk with Hazro and am relatively happy with the choice but anything smaller wouldn't justify compromising on the quality of the Dell.

I still like to use it at times and miss it's feature of 76Hz in some games.

The matte finish is also something I would like to see in my Hazro screen.

They're both great monitors but slightly on the expensive side as the HP one could be had for £300 at around launch and the Dell is going up in price every month, it would seem!

I would look for a 16:9 monitor if you watch a lot of movies, they're perfectly suited for it buy you'd ideally want to go bigger.

There are some pretty neat Samsungs coming soon, failing that, look at the Hazro's range. They might not be ideally built but the quality of the panels itself is really top notch.

So just to clarify, there's nothing at the moment that could be considered a significant upgrade over a 2209wa, at around £250?

Aye, there's not much.

The U2311H is a small step up (23in size, 1080p resolution), but then again it is 16:9 aspect ratio and uses a 6bit panel with some good FRC implementation (compared to a true 8 bit panel in the 2209WA). Here is an in-depth review of the U2311H, overall it is a very nice bit of kit.

Dell just announced they are going to release new 22, 23 and 24in IPS monitors this year - all of which will be E-IPS, WLED backlit and 1080p res. The 24in (compared to the U2410) is a downgrade in features in some areas, however hopefully this will also mean a 24in IPS dell will be more affordable - I guess we will see in Q3. If you are looking to upgrade from a 2209WA to something bigger - I would suggest waiting for the new Dell 24in (or buy an LG 32LD450 S-IPS TV for £219 like I did :))

Wouldn't you even recommend upgrading to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-036-DE&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat= - as that gets amazng reviews everywhere I look. Also, I lknow the quality will go top notch aswell.

Oh yes, the U2410 is a lovely monitor. If you can afford it then absolutely go for it.

However, if it's too much money then the new Dells may be worth a wait as the slight reduction in specs often comes alongside lower prices.

Yeah, the main downside to the U2410 is the price.

At least compared to when the 2209wa could be got for under £200.

Good, so I'll just hold on until later this year and see what's what.
