I've looked on the net and everywhere states it's quite tricky, last thing I want to do is damage the casing for my phone.

Has anyone got any experience with doing this? What replacement battery did you choose?

I have taken the iPhone 2g apart as i have swapped screens in them.

You will find that the battery is soldered to the logic board and glued to the case.

it is posible to replace but not easy

My main concern is the aluminium back looks very difficult to remove, I'm worried about bending it out of shape.

Asian.

White people run phone shops like Carphonewarehouse that do useless things like take all your money.
Asian people run phone shops in some knackered lot on the high street that sell tatty phone covers and do useful things that other shops won't touch for warranty fears.

the alloy case is easy to get of..

i use .3mm guitar picks and you slide it along the edge and the black plastic slides of.. you then remove 3 screws VERY small and run the guitar pick alround to break the seal then lift it open plenty of you tube videos for it..

its not hard just go slow dont panic it...

I have dismantled a lot of modern tech for various repairs ( ibook g3, g4,mini mac, macbook, 360, blackberry 9520 ect ect ) and more recently a 2g iphone to replace the battery. The iphone was easily the hardest thing I have every taken apart. The black aerial cover is easy to remove then the alloy cover is a complete git to take off with out bending it. Then you need to remove the battery which is glued in. Then unsolder the old battery and resolder the new one in.

Don't believe those you tube vids showing someone sliding a prying tool around the case and it easily popping off, unless your case has been off and on many times it a lot harder.

true the videos imply speed and ease they still show true how to do it,, hence slow dont panic... it the black slide was no where like the video ease but again not difficult the alloy cover can be tight but like i said i use guitar pick 0.3mm steel one and it just slides and eases it open..
the rest is in the video about glued on battery which pretty much lifts of itself with small pressure.. i recently done one with a broken mash screen and even then the cables all stayed intact which i thought would be broken so it didnt need digitizer

watch the video and watch it again its no more difficult than a lot of jobs to do, but it depends i guess on your skills like all things in life i know chefs who cant make decent bread or yorkshire puds... and there easy..lol
