Replace my TV!

Okay guys, lets jump straight into it - I need to replace my TV. At the moment I am using a 37" by Clarity (cannot remember the exact model number).

Anyway, point is I have finally caught up to the world and got myself a PS3 and well, it just looks terrible! It appears that the TV only has 720p compaitability and its just horribly blurry.

So, I need a new TV. It would be nice to stick to under a budget of £500 and has to be 1080p (Full HD) @ 37" due to the space available. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Currently my best deal looks like the LG 37LH5000, due to the 80,000:1 contrast ratio.

Maybe a Samsung 37B650 or a Sony 37W5500?

Both can be had for just over £500 nowadays. £544 for the Sony online looks decent BUT the 40" versions of both can be had for around £600 as well.

Bear in mind that (i think) the 37" versions have different panels than the 40" versions.

I'm sure someone will be along to recommend a Panasonic soon! :)

SONY KDL40EX503U, Can be found for £650 (when trading in any old tv) and a long warranty.

It was my choice. :)

Check out the Panasonic TX-P42U20B plasma, they are selling at a popular retail store named similar to an asteroid for £550.

I've just bought 1 and for the money, it's the mut's nuts.

1080p, 400Hz, 24p, 42 inch, and it's Panasonic. You know it makes sense!

How good are these new LED screens?

LED aren't new 'screens' as such they're LCD screens with LED backlights. They have the LCD issues of light bleed-through in the blacks and uneven light distributions due to it being new tech.

The avforums have gone to town on this, stating it's the biggest swindle at the moment. You may as well go for an LCD or a Plasma.

They aren't good! They just appear to be good! It is just an illusion! I have a Pioneer Kuro 50 inch (before you ask i didnt purchase it new - second hand from a friend) and my friend recently purchased a Samsung LED. Verdict? for contrast ration and PS3 pioneer destroys it! hands down! But when watching BBC Planet Earth the LED seemed more crips i dont know why...? but i would go with what the other users say as to stay away from LED for now atleast until OLED comes out anyway.
