hey all

I sort of dip in and out of tech specs as I need to upgrade so would appreciate any up to date advice.

Bought a Z77 board in 2012, put a 3570K in it, and now the USB ports are going completely heywire, refusing to accept some inputs (recognising my phone for instance just not pulling it up, screwing up my rift) and 3.0 does not work at all. Looking around the web this seems to be a common issue - basically im fed up with the damn thing so am looking at options.

Is there any way to keep the rest of the system and get a replacement 1155 board - just not the Z77. Looking through google they all seem to be ancient, used or end of line stuff, so I am guessing the upgrade itch is about to strike - I can feel it already. Seems a waste of what has been a good cpu though.

I am going to try and wipe all the settings off it first - upgrade the bios to a 2014 beta version, wipe the hard drive and see if that fixes anything.

Am I missing anything?

Cheers

I had the same dilemma m8, in the end i gave away the CPU and ram to a friend and just scratched the upgrade itch. My cpu was a bad clocker though so it was an easier decision for me, if yours is a good one then it might be still good for years to come.

I would try doing the bios like ya said, but when your installing all the stuff again just add one USB device at a time to make sure one of your devices isnt causing the problem. The usb 3 hub was always an issue on my board so in the end i just unplugged it. Since i changed to z97 the same hub has been working fine so that was a board problem rather than hub.

1155 motherboards are getting more rare and expensive every day. I was fortunate to get a Sabertooth Z77 for a decent price after my MPower went balls up but I wouldn't do it again.

Hopefully all the issues will be in software and everything gets sorted out.

Hi mate, I recently had to order a new z77 board after my ek predator leaked. They tend to sell at a higher price brand new if you can find them.I got lucky on a mint condition z77 sabertooth on ebay that still has warranty on it.

I previously had an asus z77 pro, a rcok solid board and only place I could track them down brand new was here http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007G51UV0?keywords=asus%20z77%20pro&qid=1452869702&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

it was cheaper for me to go with the used board however. You will still be able to find some new boards on Amazon but the used ones I seen had generic pictures and not pictures of the actual item, which is what put me off.

My 3770k is a great clocker and runs at 4.8 with ease and good temps is the reason I chose to stay with z77 platform, depends on how good of a bin your chip is really, you could upgrade and get a crappy chip that doesn't clock great and only have marginally better performance or get a great clocker and have a significant performance upgrade.

Yup, i went from a 3570k that did 4.4 using turbos to a 4970k that does 4.9 but it could easily go the other way and leave you rather disappointed.
