As the title says I replaced the battery with another 2032 3v battery as I found after a 3 week holiday my CMOS settings had reset. On rebooting I get fans on power to HDDs however the monitors won't power on.

So far I have done the following:

Checked all cables
Reset CMOS with jumper
Checked graphics card
Checked power to drives
Replaced old battery - still no reboot

Any ideas what I can try next?

Hi, thanks. I've just tried it again and no there is no audible beep. One other thing I noticed was it powered on as soon as I turned on the mains power which doesn't sound right to me...

Try removing the front pannel connectors and start it by shorting the two power on pins instead, just to rule out that it turning on when you turn the mains on isnt because the switch is shorting. It's a long shot but easily checked.

To be honest, if the motherboard isnt that old then its a lot more likely something has gone wrong with it rather than the battery dying.

PK!

Thanks I'll try that. It does seem a little unlikely though that just at the moment I change the CMOS battery something else dies? If it has I'm in trouble as given it's a Skt939 mobo with AGP/PCI slots it'll mean a whole new PC which isn't in the budget right now!

Sounds like the battery might be a red-herring.

I expect that whatever fault reset your CMOS is now preventing your PC from booting.

EDIT: Oops, just seen that misterPK said the same thing. Well.. I agree with him! :)

Hmm, as the power had been off 3 weeks I assumed it was a flat battery especially as the motherboard is a good few years old now 4-5yrs. I'll try a few more things tonight and report back...

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

UPDATE:

Just for information I swapped out various stuff including the RAID card and sound card but solved it as soon as I plugged in my old X1950pro. Seems the HD 3850 had gone pop, odd as the fan worked and card looks ok and it was only 5 months old. Back for a replacement fingers crossed.
