So my (mostly) 3 year old system decided to completely die on me this afternoon.

I had been planning to build a new Windows 7, SSD PC sometime early next year, but this has pushed things forward a little :D

The problem is I haven't had my usual months of indecision before buying a PC, so I'm not up to date with everything and I'd like to have the pieces ready for next weekend

Below is what I'm thinking of going for after an afternoon of browsing various sites. I want a good fast PC that doesn't run too hot or too loud. I had so many fans in my now-dead machine that it sounded like a jet taking off.

Case - Old PC (Antec P182) - £0
Sound - Old PC (Creative X-Fi Gamer) - £0
DVD - Old PC (LG BD HD DVD) - £0

Mobo - MSI P55-GD65 Intel P55 - £132
CPU - Intel Core i7 860 2.80Ghz LGA1156 - £227
HDD1 - Intel X25-M Mainstream 160GB - £365
HDD2 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750GB - £55
RAM - OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 - £79
GFX - Asus GeForce GTX 275 896MB - £190
PSU - Corsair HX 650W ATX Modular - £97
Cooler - Zalman CNPS10X-Quiet CPU Cooler - £38

Total from OcUK - £1,183

Is there anywhere I'm going wrong, especially when it comes to keeping things relatively cool?

if you can hold out a little on the SSD get this

Crusial 128GB SSD it has a lot better write speeds than the intel and the same read speeds. Plus its £100 cheaper
Ditch the seagate barrcuda and get a samsung f3 1TB for the same price but better performance

Then use that extra £100 to get 2 x 5770 in crossfire (£250 around £60 more than your GTX275) and your on a winner

Agreed, Crucial over the Intel, price difference is not justifiable.

As above, look at the Samsung F3 1TB HDD - does well in many reviews.

Also, with the money saved on the SSD why not look at the ATI 5850, or perhaps 2 in Crossfire??

5850 is a bit short stock at the moment but 5770 isnt and 2 5770's in crossfire scale VERY WELL and offer better performance that 5850 for the same price

Cheers for the feedback guys, I probably won't go crossfire (heat & noise) but the rest looks good.

Myabe reapply the thermal paste on the 5770s with mx3 and then clock the fanspeed down to 50% and youll be fine for heat and noise

the 5770 are meant to really quiet i am sure there are a lot of people on this forum that can comment on the noise level.
