I have been having some problems with the above monitor for alittle time now.

problem:

Sometimes when the monitor would resume from standy, there would be scrambled lines on the screen, often when changing resolutions it would give me 'No signal'. This is using a DVI connection, to resolve this the monitor needed to be switched off and back on by the button on the bezel.

Contacted dell this morning:

Advisor eventually found me, and then said to me that they would be replacing it. :) However heres the clinch! I am going to get another 2405!

However! mine was manufactered April 2006, its a REV05. When I purchased this I was under the impression it was one of the last ones and the last revisions. The 2407! was on the horizon at the time.

Question:

I am concerned that I am going to old monitor, older revision. I was hoping that this one dying would be a nice upgrade to the 2407. I have seen many people on this forum get a 2407 for over 1 year now.

The monitor is arriving tommorow. If its an older revision. Do I accept it?
Could anyone let me know where I stand. The advisor couldnt exactly state what revision it would be. But said they are normally are more recent stock.

Hmmm ... if it is an older revision I think I'd kick up a fuss. It would have probably better to mention it during your previous conversation, but you probably didn't have all the facts then.

I did state to the agent that it was the A05.

I have the case number, after alittle research its seems there is an A06. If I get that I will be happy.

However if they palm me off with an old one, Im not going to be happy.

Is it maybe possible that they wont have a 2405, and I get a 2407! This fault ive had had been ongoing for some time, basically I had waited to now, in order to get a 07. I feel alittle let down.

You can reject it and call Dell using the case number given to you and say your not happy they will then organise a further replacement. if you end up going to the Escalations team at Dell they will just upgrade you to a newer model most likely a 2407WFP you just have to put up with rejecting and calling them

will do, i understand that I have 21 days to accept it. I will check the revsion number and manufacturer date when it arrives. I was alittle shocked when they said the replacement was 2405

Ok thanks for the info guys. Ive just remove the blasted soundbar. It was a pain to get off. As I work shifts and didnt get in till 3am Im probably gonna wait up then goto sleep tommorow. I hope they show up. As Ive never had anything changed by Dell in the past I have no idea how it goes. Will let you know.

update-just got a few hours sleep. I sleep through bangs on doors so i got up early. Called Dell spoke to very helpful chap who confirmed its all due to go ahead. Asked about the monitor. They stated they wont send an ealier revsion so fingers crossed should be a 2407. Will be even happier if I get the HC! Very impressed so far.

dont worry dude you will get a 2407-hc most likely

when i did an rma for a 2405 back over a year ago, i got a 2407

i did another 2407 recently as it developed a screen fault and got a 2407-hc
(and this was a brand new one)

Came out 3 hours ago, no doubt its a 2407. Its says A04. So its pretty recently. its so bright compared to the 2405. Not sure if its the HC? I know that on my old dell there was a service menu, but it doesnt seem to work [+] + [Menu] when pressing power switch. It looks brand new. Very impressed with Dell i will definatly be buying again when i look to buy another display.

A04 is going to be a newish non HC, nice one :)

pleased with it?

monitor seems a lot brighter than my old 2405 (Made in 2006). This was a A05 revision. I love the new stand, its very well built. There is no noticeable bleed from the sides, pixels are perfect. I found out by running the service menu thats its apprantly had 19 Hours of use. (Unless this has been reset).

Only 1 minor niggle. When looking at text at high contrast. The texts ghosts very slighty, its like there is a red shadow. Everything else looks so sharp. If I knock down the resolution it goes away. But I want to run it at the native resolution.

Probably a calibration issue, any suggestions on sw to use to calibrate the display?
