So, for the past while my Radeon 9800 Pro has been showing artifacts as below:

My current 6 year old setup is:
P4C800-E motherboard
Pentium4 3GHz
3Gig memory
350W PSU
Radeon 9800 Pro

Any suggestions on a cheap replacement? Would it be worth getting the XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650 1024MB (~£53 + P&P) from OcUK? I'm not really doing much gaming at the minute, just surfing and watching tv shows/films, so I don't really want to do a full upgrade just yet.

Goosed memory chip - I have one that does the same. Not an uncommon problem on the 9800. Usually takes about 5 minutes for the problem to manifest itself.

Underclocked the RAM using ATITool and it works fine. Might be worth a try.

If you are sure you are not going to game, I'm pretty sure there are members who got old AGP cards setting around collecting dust doing nothing, which they would be more than happy to send to you for free- as long as you are paying for the postage.

Hi Magicboy, I used ATITool to underclock but the artifacts usually came back after a while, or if I undeclocked too much it seemed to affect my tv card :(
