hi, i have a barton 3200 system with abit nf7-s mobo and radeon 9800 pro the rig is used as an htpc and 720p hd playback

the 9800pro 128mb was only 1 year old and fitted with an arctic cooler and was capabale of running 720p nicely but recenly died for no reason :(

looking to replace with another agp card....any reccomendations appreciated.

on a seperate note when the card failed it took out the entire pc which would not even display bios or turn off etc though (up and running with an old geforce card)i have taken the card apart and can find no visible issues with it ?

The fastest card I'd probably advise with that system is either an X800XT or a 7600GT, both of which you should be able to pick up for £60 or less secondhand, failing the 7600GT a 6800GT is a decent alternative which when overclocked isn't much slower. :)

If you like ATi - x800XT or x1950 Pro if you want to get the absolute max out of it

If you prefer NVidia - 7600 GT (s/h 6800 GT if you're on a budget) as above will do nicely. Check out the AGP buyer's guide sticky.

I can heartily recommend the 6800GT -That was my upgrade from a 9800pro and served me well. I just upgraded from that to PCIE (Waiting for parts now :D)

Incidentally, are you interested in a much-loved 6800GT? ;)
