hi

my HH5 is dropping signal and connection so needs replacing.

i want a good AC wireless one but don;t want to spend a fortune. i like simple interfaces and the router will have a homeplug attached which goes to my 8 port tp link switch upstairs.

happy with TP link as the new HP's are tplink branded.

I think there were 2 revisions of the HH5, the 5A and 5B, both by different manufacturers. As far as I know the main difference is the 5A doesn't properly work with G.INP, which can cause connection issues if G.INP is enabled in your area. It should say somewhere either on the HH itself or somewhere in the router settings on what revision it is.

If you're happy with the HH5 wifi, just get an Openreach modem second hand (about £15). Match it up to your exchange so either a HG612 3B if you have a Huawei cabinet or an ECI model. Lots of info on this if you google and you get the best fibre modem available imo.
