looks like my trusty onkyo 606 has died (2nd one of the buggers to give up the ghost)

looking for a replacement unit with a minimum of 4 hdmi inputs to power a 2.1 setup

rest of my setup is

lg 570T
Mordaunt short alumni bookshelves
Mordaunt short alumni 9 sub
PS4
XB1
Sky HD box

ideally keeping the cost of a replacement around the £200 mark and definitely not anything from ruddy onkyo again

any suggestions welcome

at that budget I'd go second hand personally.

i think a decent receiver costs around £1500 ish.

a mid end one costs around £500-£1000.

£200 isn't going to go far at all brand new.

Complete nonsense. A decent receiver costs about £10k. £200 would buy maybe a 50cm cable.

Not everyone on here has that kind of money to spend on an HC. 10k's worth of AV Receiver goes out of date very quickly in terms of Features (Say 4-5 years tops) When it does its residual Value drops like a stone.

OP, This is on offer at the moment.

You didn't say what speakers you have, so get a demo first before buying.

I was being sarcastic. I wasn't very impressed with Psycho's response.

Richer sounds have teh denon avrx2200 in the sale

but it ya only running a 2.1 id go for yamaha

What whent wrong with ya 606....mines still goin strong, but im waiting for it to go

Richer sounds so the Sony 850 on the clearance in the Chester store, however there is no remote or any accessories with it. If you can find the remote you get an extra 10% off making it £180, and makes it future proof with upscaling etc.

The yammy that's been linked got good reviews, but I'm anal about things (uses cheap wire connector on back) etc and think for an extra xyz will get me something better.

Get the best you can with the amount of money you have.

Because it's extremely unhelpful to the OP who has provided a budget that he has to stick to regardless of your elitist Tory voting, investment banker opinions.

Onkyo seem to be terrible for reliability. My dads 606 has just failed for the second time and while we were in Richer Sounds to buy a replacement (he's sick of having to wait for repairs), two people were in there either collecting or dropping off Onkyo's for repair

Perhaps they are struggling to achieve the quality at such low prices..... Like it or not Physco Sonny comments have a lot truth......

I didn't realise you could get an AV amp for 180 quid these days !!! .... Time you have taken out the packaging ( probably the most costly part of you purchase) shipping, dealer and distributor costs and margins, VAT... How much do you think they spent making it?? And what grade of parts were use???
Then people will complain of lack of functions and want every option under the sun covered.....

As people's posts have shown, buy cheap buy twice.......
Best option, better grade/quality item from the second hand market..... Or if it's for a 2.1 set up, get a stereo amp not AV amp.

so basically anyone who has bought a £200 avr is a peasant , IMHO what an arrogant comment

Where did I say that?

Again you haven't read what was posted and are making stuff up.

I myself bought an AVR this week for £170.

I went second hand though and I got one that was worth £550 ish when it launched iirc. It's only 4 months old (old new stock).

People who buy £200 AVR brand new imo aren't peasants but unrealistic. The quality is obviously going to be poor.
