Replaced my cpu the other day. Fitted a 5600x cpu into my MSI B550 gaming edge motherboard. In my ham-fisted way I managed to damage one of the threads on the backplate whilst reattaching my Cooler Master hyper 411 cooler.
It works fine with 3 of the 4 cooler screws holding it in. Temps are ok but I'd like to replace the backplate.
I can't remember if the backplate came with the motherboard or the cooler.
Are the AM4 backplates standard? Do I need to get anAM4 backplate that's uniquely compatible with the motherboard or the cooler or will a standard generic AM4 backplate do the job?

Many thanks.

MSI B550 definitely come preinstalled with a backplate, will a generic one fit? probably but need to check it doesn't foul components on the back of the board.

ThanksDg834man. Here's hoping if I buy a cheapo generic that it's ok. Disassembling PC only to find fouling an issue will be a pain in the butt. I was hoping for a magical answer from someone that went along the lines of "Yeah, any one will do."
Think I'll have a shuftie on the manufactures website. See if I can get a genuine spare.

It's more likely to be an issue with ITX motherboards than ATX, due to the size constraints, but eh.

Does the backplate have anything written on it?

Dunno. It's still in the pc. I've now purchased a generic replacement. From memory, it looks very similar to the original. For now that loose screw doesn't seem to be affecting things much. Temps are fine and no crashing. So, even though I've now got a replacement the prospect of dismantling and rebuilding the pc to fit it doesn't seem worth the risk of damaging something else in the process. I'll get around to replacing it when I'm doing some other maintenance probably.

Many thanks.
