Battery on my Inspiron 6000 has finally died. It was going downhill with its charge time so it was expected. Any ideas for a good, cheap replacement? There are some on ebay from hong kong and most of the feedback is good, but quite a few say that the battery doesnt fit or work properly.

Cheap as possible please :)

I will be very interested in the advice you get. I purchased a cheap replacement for my HP Li-Ion HSTNN-DB20. It was great at first but only lasted 2-3 months before holding no charge at all (well around 2 minutes). This compared with two years for the original and a more gradual decline in performance. Currently using with mains power only.

Yeah I dont think I treated my battery too well, I didnt let it discharge properly and always left it in when the mains were on. Now I can turn the computer on and log in but then it'll die :(

Same here. However with Li-ion batteries seems that you don't need to fully discharge Some quotes from the link above:

The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. .......

A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off point in the equipment will do this.

Ouch, still quite expensive :( Was thinking about just buying a new netbook (that one they have on Mesh for £200 at the minute) anyway so its probably worth doing that as it'll be a lot more efficient I guess.
