Hi all,

Not sure what's gone on with my toilet recently but everything has broken.

Back of the inlet valve seems to have come off and disappeared completely meaning that it was rushing water out the back of the toilet lid, currently bodged with cloth.

Not flushing properly which indicates the Siphon needs replacing.

While trying to get it to flush, the plastic connector from the handle to the piston has snapped meaning i have to manually pull on it to flush it now.

So, as I need everything but the float I was wondering is it best to replace like for like, or is it possible to upgrade to a front button system?

excuse the grime, needs a good scrub:

Any suggestions on the best/cheapest place to get the parts? Homebase is looking at around £35-40

nice one, nothing like a direct reply with everything you need :D

Ordered, just awaiting delivery now, then the joys of fitting it :)

That's like replacing your car because it needs a head gasket :D

Toilet itself is fine and i must say, looks better than that dinky thing :D

part arrived at 12, just finished putting it in.

Have to remove the entire cistern to remove the syphon, the old nuts and seals were knackered so had to pop out to buy new ones from Homebase (£6) and a proper adjustable wrench (£9).

The actually parts have been very easy to fit, but 3 bad points. The new inlet valve "float" slightly rubs the cistern itself, I've had to carefully position it to be able to work properly without getting stuck. And the switch sticks out a good inch as the hole in the tank wasn't big enough to sit it flush. When the flush is coming to the end, there's quite the THUNK from the new syphon. Minor issues.

The main issue was the previous owner had cut the intake line too short by about 1cm, I've had to literally clamp it, hold it up and then connect it to the cistern with a compression bolt. The seal from the cistern into the toilet had an internal diameter of 3" and external 4.5", perished and new kits have a much smaller seal resulting in water going everywhere when flushed.

I've had to clean the seal as best I could, refit it then use a new seal that sits on the inside. No leaks yet when flushing.

Taken 4 hours, and I've not started cleaning up yet :S Wife is back in 40 mins...JOY! :D

EDIT: after a lot of testing, as small leak is still evident from the cistern/toilet seal. Going to find one online now!
