My H100i is about 2 years old and the pump has started to make funny noises but while the temps are fine, I think it would be safer to replace it to avoid any potential issues.

Would it be worth getting another AIO or should I go air?

I'm tempted by an air cooler, as less can go wrong, but what are your opinions?

Edit:

As it happens, I have an EK CPU Block, 1x 240mm RAD and 6 13/10 fittings as well as a pump/res combo - worth getting some tubing and using this instead?

My main concern around doing this would be failure - I'm scared ****less about making a mistake and potentially destroying my PC which is why I was thinking about air cooler or another AIO like the EK 240 Predator.

I would get the tubing, you've got pretty much everything else already.

Even if you get new fittings, you'll be spending about the same on a good air cooler anyway.

If everyone was scared of watercooling, nobody would do it and to my knowledge (and I read a lot of posts) nobody has ever screwed it up so bad that they've ruined everything.

The key is to take your time and you've been around here for long enough to know to just ask if in doubt

leak tests :) those will solve all your problems.
even if you have a small leak (few drops) if the pc is shut down, just wipe, dry and all is good.
I would also suggest going full custom water.
Also you can always add another 240mm rad in your case and do you gpu's.

go custom water, I have and will never look back. I also built a custom loop over the weekend for a friend, I did not leak test as i really dont personally see the need as i am confident in my ability to do a fitting up tight enough. Its really not that scary and there was not leaks ;)

all the pipe and fitting are so massively over engineered the chances of a leak are very low unless you make a massive mistake. i find piping gallons of water around my houses central heating at a couple of Bar much more concerning than a couple of cups going round my PC at virtually no pressure. As mentioned take your time and if it is your first time (we all had a first time ;) ) just dont rush it and allow plenty of time as you will have it all planned out in your mind how it goes and it never works out you end up putting bits else where etc. (lesson for life that)

Seriously you have the stuff give it a go just run it with the PC off for 2-3 hours first and if it does leak it wont hurt anything turned off. some people say 24 hours but if its going to leak it will within 5 mins tbh.

Thanks :)

I think that's what I'll do then. Is it worth getting a drain port fitted as well?

Yes!! A drain port whilst not a necessity they are bloody helpful. I didn't have one in my first loop and it made draining an absolute PITA! I've now got one and it's just put a fitting on, some tube and turn the tap, simples! :p

I don't leak test either, maybe 30 minutes just to double check, I don't bother otherwise.

Yeah drain port is a must you need to drain quickly due to a problem. Also i don't bother leak testing, i just let it run for a couple hours with res top off to get rid of air/bubbles.

I dont have a drain port, i have a temperature sensor in the water (the ones ocuk sell) and its fitted via a T peice. I just fit that at the bottom of the loop and undo the actual sensor when i want to drain and it works perfect. Kills two birds with one stone as ts a drain and also can keep an eye on water temps :)

Thanks for the advise on the drain port, I think I'll add one in after the advise here.

As for the RMA, I'm not sure its worth it but if I find the receipt when I move, I'll send it back - could always flog it right ;)

So, to recap I have the following:

  • EK CPU Block
  • 1x 240mm rad
  • 6x 16/10 EK Fittings
  • Pump/Res Combo

Anything to add to the below?
